B I OJosé Ignacio Domecq — Polo Sculptor, Madrid
José Ignacio Domecq is a Spanish sculptor based in Madrid, and arguably the world’s most dedicated artist working exclusively in the world of polo. Having grown up immersed in the sport, Domecq brings an insider’s eye to every piece — he doesn’t just observe polo, he understands it from the saddle.
Working in bronze using the traditional lost-wax casting method, Domecq captures the explosive dynamism of the game: the fast turn, the backhander, the physical contest of taking the man. His sculptures range from intimate table-top pieces to monumental works, and have entered private collections across Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.
What sets his work apart is the combination of deep technical mastery and genuine passion for the sport. Every sculpture begins with dozens of hours watching, sketching and feeling the movement of horses and riders — before a single gram of clay is touched.
Domecq accepts commissions for private collections, polo clubs, tournament trophies and public installations. Contact: jid@jidomecq.com | +34 649 427 010
